Castro clear thinking?

The naivete of the left can be stunning at times. At least, I was stunned this week when I watched members of the Black Congressional Caucus gushing with wide eyes after a meeting with Cuban dictator, strong-man and all-around evil guy Fidel Castro.

Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., described the aging bad-guy as “clear thinking.”

Even worse was Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, who said of Castro, “He’s one of the most amazing human beings I’ve ever met.” (Read a good editorial in the Kansas City Star here.)
Amazingly, the lawmakers don’t seem to care much about Castro’s many human-rights abuses. The State Department’s Human Rights Report on Cuba details how the systematic denial of human rights is still ongoing.
So, I can buy the argument that it may be wise to loosen travel restrictions with an eye toward helping the United States gain influence once the Castro brothers are gone. But even President Obama sees the importance of not going too far down that road without some reciprocation from the current regime.
Unfortunately, this delegation hasn’t helped matters at all.
