Daschle-d hopes

A lot of people were willing to give Tim Geithner the benefit of the doubt and confirm him as U.S. Treasury Secretary despite the fact he had failed to pay $34,000 in taxes. Even readers of this blog were uninterested in discussing the matter when I raised it (See the blog post here).
Now comes Tom Daschle, the designated Secretary of Health and Human Services, who failed to pay more than $120,000 in

taxes. President Obama says this is a very serious matter, but he still stands by his pick.
Of course, Daschle has since “fixed” the problem. Neither you nor I could just “fix” a problem like that if the IRS got wind of it. I like this op-ed in the Washington Post.
Is this the type of change Obama promised? Is this the fresh break from Washington scandals? Shouldn’t we require the leaders of our institutions to follow the rules of those institutions?
Tell me, why should the Senate confirm Daschle?
